Heroes is an American Emmy Award-nominated science fiction drama television series, created by Tim Kring, which premiered on NBC on September 24, 2006. The show tells the story of several people who "thought they were like everyone else... until they realized they have incredible abilities" such as telepathy, time travel and flight. These people soon realize they have a role in preventing a catastrophe and saving mankind. The series emulates the writing style of American comic books with short, multi-episode story arcs that build upon a larger, more encompassing arc. Kring said "we have talked about where the show goes up to five seasons."

When the series premiered in the United States, it was the night's most-watched program among adults aged 18–49, attracting 14.3 million viewers overall and receiving the highest rating for any NBC drama premiere in five years. On October 6, 2006, NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly announced Heroes had been picked up for a full season, and on January 17, 2007, Reilly announced Heroes had been picked up for a second season. The second season of Heroes will consist of 24 episodes] and the first season of a new spinoff, Heroes: Origins, will include six episodes.[8] The second season will premiere on September 24, 2007.

Characters

Season 1: Genesis

The show features an ensemble cast of twelve main characters. Although NBC's cast page[10] lists only ten characters, Leonard Roberts (D.L. Hawkins), who first appeared in the series' fifth episode, was an additional member of the original full-time cast. Later Jack Coleman (Noah Bennet) was upgraded from a recurring role to become the twelfth full-time cast member as of "Fallout".

The main cast, not all of whom have been shown to possess powers, consists of:

* Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman), more commonly referred to as "Mr. Bennet" or "the Man in Horn-Rimmed Glasses", a father who works for the Primatech Paper Company, which is actually a cover operation for an organization that investigates people with superhuman abilities.

* Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere), Mr. Bennet's adopted daughter, a high school cheerleader who lives in Odessa, Texas, and has a spontaneous regenerative ability.

* Simone Deveaux (Tawny Cypress), an art dealer and gallery owner whose skepticism and complicated romantic life are tested.

* D.L. Hawkins (Leonard Roberts), the husband of Niki and father of Micah, has the power to alter his physical tangibility and phase through solid objects, both organic and inorganic.

* Isaac Mendez (Santiago Cabrera), an artist living in New York who can paint future events during precognitive trances. He also writes and draws a comic book called 9th Wonders! which has also been shown to depict the future. He has problems with drugs.

* Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), a programmer from Tokyo with the ability to manipulate the space-time continuum. He is convinced that he is a hero, and with other "special persons", he can change the future.

* Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), a Los Angeles police officer with the ability to hear other people's thoughts.

* Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar), a New York Congressional candidate with the ability of self-propelled flight.

* Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia), a former hospice nurse and Nathan's younger brother. He is an empath with the ability to absorb the powers of others he has been near and recall them.

* Micah Sanders (Noah Gray-Cabey), D.L. and Niki's son and a child prodigy, Micah is a technopath, allowing him to "talk" to electrical devices, which gives him control of machines and electronic devices.

* Niki Sanders (Ali Larter), the wife of D.L. and mother of Micah. A former internet stripper from Las Vegas who exhibits superhuman strength and an alternate personality who goes by the name of Jessica.

* Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), a professor of genetics from India who travels to New York to investigate the death of his father, Chandra. Through his investigations, he comes into contact with people his father listed as possessing superhuman abilities.

The main antagonist in season one is Sylar (Zachary Quinto), a serial killer who hunts super-powered individuals in order to take their abilities. Additionally, the first season slowly reveals who and what is responsible for a plot to destroy New York City. The series also features many guest and recurring characters, including friends and family of the main cast, criminals and villains, and other individuals with remarkable powers.

Season 2: Generations

Zachary Quinto and James Kyson Lee, who were recurring characters in the first season, join the main cast for the second season. They are joined by new cast members David Anders, Dana Davis and Dania Ramírez.[18] Santiago Cabrera, Tawny Cypress, and Leonard Roberts are not listed as part of the main cast.[citation needed]

* Takezo Kensei (David Anders), a legendary 1,000 year old warrior with the power of immortality.

* Ando Masahashi (James Kyson Lee), Hiro Nakamura's friend, coworker, and travelling companion. He does not have any superhuman abilities.

* Maya Herrera (Dania Ramírez), a Dominican who is on the run from the police. She has superhuman abilities, although they have not yet been revealed.

* Monica (Dana Davis), described as a "young hero" who is willing to "give up everything to help the people around her."

* Sylar (Zachary Quinto), a former watchmaker with an intuitive understanding of how things work. He is a serial killer who seeks out superhuman individuals, killing them in order to take their powers. Sylar has multiple acquired abilities

Plot

The plot of Heroes is designed to be similar to the stories of comic books. Like comic books, Heroes has large overall arcs and small arcs within the main arc. No matter what characters exist and what events make up a season, all seasons of Heroes will involve ordinary people who discover their abilities and their reactions to their self-discovery.

First season

Each episode reveals new answers and questions and progresses the story and/or the characters. There is an overall arc of the first season that revolves around stopping an explosion of immense proportions that happens in the future. That arc is initially carried by two characters, Hiro Nakamura and Isaac Mendez, the former having seen the event in the future and the latter having painted it from his visions.

The first four episodes of the first season revolved primarily around characters discovering their powers, dealing with the issues of normal life and coping with the consequences of their discovery.

At the end of the fourth episode, a smaller arc began with the message "Save the cheerleader, save the world", which is tied to the explosion already foreseen. By the end of that arc, the characters slowly discovered their abilities and the existence of others like them, and some of them even began to realize the need to come together to prevent a catastrophe.

As characters progress through the first season learning of others similar to them, the plot turns to the question of how the explosion seen in Hiro's trip to the future and Isaac's paintings will occur and what role the various characters will play to stop it or cause it.

Heroes: Origins

On May 14, 2007 NBC announced that during the 2007-2008 season, the network will air a six-episode Heroes spinoff called Heroes: Origins. The show will introduce a new character each week, and viewers will select which one stays for the following season.[20][21]

Recurring elements

Three elements appear repeatedly throughout the series: the helix, the scar and the eclipse. The scar appears to be man-made, but the circumstances surrounding the helix – its meaning and its manifestations – are a slowly-unraveling mystery.

Helix

The helix is a symbol that appears quite frequently throughout the series. The helix symbol consists of an "S" shape from which three lines extend, with two on the left and one on the right. The "S" shape resembles a strand of RNA during transcription, which would make the lines extending outward the nucleotides during the transcription phase.

In episode 12 ("Godsend") the symbol appears on the sword hilt and Ando Masahashi remarks that it appears to be a combination of two Kanji characters: 才 (Sai) meaning "Great Talent" and 与 (Yo) meaning "Godsend". During an interview at the Wizard World in Los Angeles, writer and Co-Producer Aron Coleite stated that it literally means “God sending great ability.” Writer and co-executive producer Michael Green stated that the writers know it as "the helix." This symbol frequently appears as a pattern formed by mundane objects, but it also recurs on certain plot-significant items and on several characters:

* On various paintings by Isaac Mendez.

* On Jessica's back whenever she surfaces as Niki's alternate personality. When Jessica is repressed, the symbol does not appear on Niki's back. This also appeared on a painting of "Jessica" by Isaac. The symbol was hidden under an extra layer of paint. Later on, Jessica hides the symbol (an apparent tattoo) under a layer of foundation makeup.

* As recurring pattern in Dr. Chandra Suresh's genetic profiling program. It also appears on the front of his book, Activating Evolution.

* On the hilt of a katana once owned by 17th century samurai Takezo Kensei. This katana is held by Hiro Nakamura.

* As a logo for Primatech Paper, in "Company Man".

* On jewelry, most notably the Haitian's necklace and Hana Gitelman's earrings and ring.

* On the flag and katana of a samurai in 1671, witnessed by Hiro Nakamura in the episode "How to Stop an Exploding Man" during the preview for Volume Two: Generations.

Scar

A mark consisting of two black parallel lines has been shown close to the neck of multiple super-powered characters. According to "Wireless, Part 4" and "How Do You Stop an Exploding Man, Part 1", the mark is the scar left by the two-pronged needle of a pneumatic injection device, which, as revealed in a biography of Hana Gitelman in the Heroes 360 experience, injects a radioisotope to allow tracking.[23] All of the marked characters have had encounters with Mr. Bennet and/or the Haitian. The following have displayed it:

* Matt Parkman

* Ted Sprague

* Hana Gitelman

* Claude

* Isaac Mendez

Eclipse

In addition to being the series logo, a solar eclipse has been a recurring image in the series itself, though a terrestrial eclipse (an eclipse in which the Earth covers the Sun, as viewed from some observation point away from the Earth) is used in the series' title sequence. So far, the solar eclipse has appeared as:

* The background of the title card of the series.

* A painting by Isaac Mendez.

* A "global event" in "Genesis".

* A future event referenced in a newspaper.

* A picture in Mohinder Suresh's apartment.

* The reflection of a light in a hospital waiting room in "Six Months Ago".

* An event during Hiro Nakamura's visit back to 17th century, Japan in "How to Stop an Exploding Man"

Reception

Critical acclaim

After completing half its first season, Heroes had already collected an assortment of honors and accolades. On December 10, 2006 the American Film Institute named Heroes one of the ten "best television programs of the year". Three days later on December 13, the Writers Guild of America nominated the program for "best new series" of 2007. The next day (December 14), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association nominated the program for a Golden Globe Award for "best television drama", and nominated Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura) for Best Supporting Actor on a TV Series. Neither the series nor the actor won; the show lost out to ABC's popular medical drama Grey's Anatomy and Oka lost to Jeremy Irons, who played Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester in Channel 4's Elizabeth I. Heroes won the award for Favorite New TV Drama at the 2007 People's Choice Awards. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People nominated Heroes on January 9, 2007 for an Image Award in the "Outstanding Drama Series" category,[28] but the show again lost to Grey's Anatomy. On February 21, 2007, it was announced that Heroes was nominated for five Saturn Awards. The nominations included "Best Network Television Series", "Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series" for both Greg Grunberg and Masi Oka, and "Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series" for Hayden Panettiere and Ali Larter. The series won the award for "Best Network Television Series"; as well, Masi Oka and Hayden Panettiere won the awards they were nominated for.

On July 19, 2007, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced their nominations for the 2007 Primetime Emmy awards. Heroes was nominated in eight categories, including Outstanding Drama Series. The pilot episode, "Genesis", earned six nominations: Outstanding Directing (David Semel), Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera Series, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series, and Outstanding Stunt Coordination. The episode "Five Years Gone" also received a nomination for Outstanding Visual Effects for a Series. Finally, Masi Oka was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

On July 21, 2007, the Television Critics Association awarded Heroes with the prestigious Outstanding Program of the Year title during their 23rd Annual TCA Awards ceremony.

The cast of Heroes was named in the 2006 Time Magazine's Person of the Year issue under "People Who Mattered". In Australia, the Sydney Morning Herald lift-out section, "The Guide", listed Heroes as one of the best shows to come in 2007. It was described as a "Modern twist of The Tomorrow People".

Ratings

USA TV Ratings

Heroes was NBC's top-rated scripted show for the 2006-2007 television season, and the most successful of the shows which debuted in that period. It ranked twenty-first in the ratings, with an average of 14.3 million viewers in the United States.

UK TV Ratings

The series aired first on Sci Fi UK. The premiere attracted 579,000 viewers on its first showing; with three repeat showings averaging 150,000. The series averaged 450,000 viewers, almost four times more than any other viewership for a program on this channel. Terrestrial airing began on BBC2 on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 9:00 p.m., and for the first time in HD in the UK on BBC HD. It attracted an audience of 4.3 million viewers.

Australian TV Ratings

The first season on the Seven Network, beginning Wednesday nights at 8:30 p.m. The series debuted strongly, attracting more than 2 million viewers in the five capital cities; however it quickly changed to a number closer to 1 million due to competition against higher rating shows on other channels that were placed in the same timeslot. Towards the end of the first season, the show was moved to the 8:30 p.m. Thursday timeslot in the cities of Sydney and Brisbane, which saw a significant increase in its numbers in those markets, especially in Brisbane.

French TV Ratings

The series currently airs on TF1, beginning Saturday nights at 8:50 p.m. The series debuted strongly, with the premiere attracting just over 6 million viewers in France.

Dutch TV Ratings

The series currently airs on RTL5 on Thursday nights at 9:30 pm. The series premiere was not watched well (405,000 viewers) but a replay drew 572,000 viewers . Currently the series draws some 350,000 viewers each episode (± 8%).

Production notes

When the writing team works on an episode, each writer takes a character and writes the individual scenes surrounding that character. These stories are then combined and given to the episode writer, allowing every writer to contribute to every episode. This allows the writing team to finish scripts faster so the filming crew can shoot more scenes at a location.

A special 73-minute version of the pilot was first screened to a large audience at the 2006 Comic Con in San Diego.[38] Initially it was reported that this unaired pilot would not be released, however Tim Kring confirmed in a subsequent interview that it will be included on the first season DVD set.

In keeping with the comic book thematic elements used in the show, professional comic book artist Tim Sale was brought in to provide the artwork used as the work of Isaac Mendez. Mendez's work in the 9th Wonders! comicbook on the show is also the work of Sale. Additionally, the font used throughout the show in the various captions and credits is reminiscent of traditional hand-rendered comic book lettering. The font was created by Sale and is based on his handwriting style.

The series is filmed in Los Angeles, California and Santa Clarita, California.

Each week NBC releases a Heroes Webcomic. The comics give additional character background and plot information not shown in the television episodes. These graphic novels will continue on what is believed to be a weekly basis during the show's summer hiatus.

Music

In France, the theme music of Heroes is composed by Victoria Petrosillo. Her song Le Héros d'un autre is used by television network TF1 to replace the show's original incidental music. Moreover, the network had to create an opening credit sequence in order to play Petrosillo's theme song.

Heroes 360 experience

Heroes 360 experience is a digital extension of the series released on January 19, 2007 and which explores the Heroes universe. Viewers can investigate clues from the show on the official website.

Emerson lawsuit

On October 2, 2006, Emerson Electric Company, an appliance market competitor of NBC's owner General Electric, filed suit in federal court against NBC. The suit was in regards to a scene that appeared in "Genesis", the pilot episode, where Claire Bennet reached into an active garbage disposal unit — labeled "In-Sink-Erator" — to retrieve a ring and severely mangled her hand. Emerson claimed the scene "casts the disposer in an unsavory light, irreparably tarnishing the product" by suggesting serious injuries would result "in the event consumers were to accidentally insert their hand into one."

Emerson had asked for a ruling barring future broadcasts of the pilot, which was previously available on NBC's Web site and had already aired on NBC Universal-owned cable networks USA Network and The Sci Fi Channel. It also sought to block NBC from using any Emerson trademarks in the future.

On February 23, 2007, the case against NBC was dropped. NBC Universal and Emerson Electric reached an agreement to settle the lawsuit outside of court.

The episode in question was briefly unavailable in the iTunes Store, but an edited version was soon made available for download. A non-edited version of the episode was shown in the BBC Two premiere on July 25, 2007.

Tim Kring, creator of NBC’s hit series Heroes, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming second season will constitute a new volume in the multi-volume series, with new characters and an entirely new storyline. “If you remember, the opening of the pilot pronounced the episode as the beginning of Volume One,” Kring said in an interview. “Volume One comes to a conclusion at the end of episode 23, and Volume Two starts with the opening of season two. And Volume Two is a different story.”

Kring added: “We could have new people and new storylines and new ideas and new threats and new bad guys and new heroes. So I would prepare the audience for that idea, that it’s not just a continuing serialized storyline about only these people. It’s a little more the 24 model than the Lost model.”

The first season of Heroes is exploring what happens when a disparate group of ordinary people discover they have extraordinary abilities and attempt to save New York from disaster.

“Heroes needs to evolve, and if we are positing an idea that this is happening all over the world to many, many people, then we get to see some of those people and see how their story fits in.”

Kring also confirmed that some of the current heroes just might not survive this season, but added: “Many of your favorites will live to fight again.”

Yesterday afternoon I wrote a post (look slightly lower, you’ll see it) about how E! Online’s Kristin had been unofficially told by a source that former “Alias” castmember David Anders had been given the role of KANE, who is described as being a 1,000 year old Hero. Now, hours later, Kristin has modified the name “Kane” with KENSEI!!! She didn’t make any notations of the change, and I’m very sure I didn’t misquote her, since I did a simple copy/paste on the original article. Explanation: Kristin must have heard back from her source, and changed the name from Kane to Kensei.

All right, you’ve held out long enough: What’s up with Heroes?
I’m on a sugar high, to be totally honest. For me, starting a new project is kind of like switching high schools — that feeling of excitement and nerves. And because everyone is so nice and I know so many people involved, I feel like I’m switching high schools — but one that a lot of my friends have already transferred to.

You’re kind of the go-to girl these days. You’re also narrating The CW’s fall drama Gossip Girl. And we hear that Lost was trying to scoop you up?
I’m flattered that I would even be considered for the other roles. [But] I was really excited when there was the prospect of working in town and on one of the best shows on television. There comes a point where I’d like to fall asleep in my own bed.

What can you tell us about your role?
[Elle] comes in with a bang. She’s a bit of a criminal in the beginning. I’m not even sure if they know whether she’s going to be bad or good. She has a link to H.R.G. and Peter. She becomes integral to the mystery on the show.

Did you have to do a table read or go out and audition for the producers?
No, I didn’t. Doesn’t that feel like I’m on another planet? It’s flattering. Everyone has the right to see actors audition [so] they get what’s right for their projects. But when you have someone coming to you saying, ”I know you’re right,” it just makes you blush. I’m over the moon.

Sylar to Become a Regular in Season Two

Well so much for all the theories on what happened to Sylar — apparently whatever happened to him, it didn’t do him in, because Access Hollywood is reporting that Sylar (and actor Zachary Quinto) won’t just return for Season 2, but he’ll be a regular from now on. At least, this according to Quinto’s reps, who confirms the news to Access Hollywood. How does this affect the show? We’ll just have to wait and see…

“Heroes : Origins” lands on BBC Two

Heroes fans from UK, it’s time to celebrate this great news. BBC Two decided to air “Heroes:Origins”.

Heroes spinoff Heroes: Origins will air on BBC Two. The spinoff, which is expected to air on NBC in April, will feature a new cast and introduce a new character in each part of its six episode run.

BBC Two controller Roly Keating told Digital Spy that his channel will “definitely be running it.”

An interactive vote conducted on the show’s official website will determine which of the introduced characters will go on to become a cast regular on Heroes’ third season.

“In America there’s an interactive element and we’d like to do that here, but I don’t know if time will be on our side,” Keating added.

NEW YORK — They saved the cheerleader, they saved the world — for now. But the superpeople of NBC's "Heroes" return with a new round of intrigue next month.

Like, whatever happened to Hiro? In May's first-season finale, the adventuresome time-traveler — who can bend the space and time continuum — found himself surrounded by samurai warriors in 17th century Japan as an eclipse darkened the sky. How ominous.

With the Sept. 24 premiere approaching, cast member James Kyson Lee, who plays Hiro's sidekick Ando Masahashi, offers these tidbits: The next chapter in the "Heroes" saga picks up four months after the near-destruction of the world. Hiro (Masi Oka) remains in ancient Japan; Non-superpowered is living in the present day. Still, the two will be in touch.

"There is going to be a really interesting channel of communication between us," Lee tells The Associated Press.

"How that's going to happen, you'll have to find out on the 24th. But it will be a fascinating way of storytelling. And what happens in one timeline will affect the other," he says.

The plot also thickens for other "Heroes":

— Noah Gray-Cabey, who plays the precocious son of good/evil single mom Niki (Ali Larter), hints at bigger things for his character.

"I'll say that Micah is definitely stepping out of his comfort zone," he tells the AP. "And he's going to be meeting some new people, possibly even family."

— A new character named Maya (Dania Ramirez) struggles with a developing power. Sound familiar?

"I have a brother, Alejandro, and we're coming to the U.S. to try to find out what's going on with me," Ramirez says. "I don't fully understand what's happening to me. However, my ability has me on the run."

Blades of Glory" (): Will Ferrell and Jon Heder portray rival figure skaters who are stripped of their gold medals and banned for life after an embarrassing fight at the world championships. They find a loophole that will allow their return, but only if they skate as partners.

The directing pair of Will Speck and Josh Gordon come skating out of the world of TV commercials and take dual credit for pacing the spoofery and skullduggery -- as well as the absurdly lavish action -- briskly.

Not all of it works, but Heder and Ferrell sure do. There's more slapstick than wit, but the sheer incongruity of the star duo is an ongoing yuk in itself.

The DVD includes the features "Return to Glory: The Making of BLADES," "Celebrities on Thin Ice," "Cooler Than Ice: The Super-Sexy Costumes of Skating" and "20 Questions With Scott Hamilton."

"Year of the Dog" (): Writer Mike White makes his directorial debut with this movie, which he also wrote, about a secretary (Molly Shannon) coping with the death of her beloved dog. It's an oddball comedy that may make you chuckle, even as you're increasingly alarmed by Peggy/Shannon's behavior.

"Offside" (): Drama about an Iranian girl who defies the law and sneaks into a stadium to watch a soccer game.

"Blood and Tears": Acclaimed documentary about the Arab-Israeli conflict.

"Dane Cook: The Lost Pilots": The comedian stars in two unaired pilots.

Special: "Carlito's Way: Crime Saga Collection"; "The Crocodile Dundee Triple Feature"; "A Night at the Roxbury."

Not so super: Extras in the first season DVD of 'Heroes' lack strength

'Heroes: Season One'

Given the cult following for NBC's superhero drama "Heroes," I expected the first season DVD release ($59.98, Universal Studios Home Entertainment) to have extras that share the same fervor for the show as can be found in the "Lost" DVD extras. Sadly, nothing comes close.

That's not to say it's a bad box set, but the extras are pedestrian and run-of-the-mill. Features on the "making of," special effects and stunts are fine, but didn't teach me anything new. Features on the show's music and comic artist Tim Sale were a little more off the beaten DVD extras path (Sale is colorblind!). But I could swear I've seen the DVD's mind reader game on the Internet before.

The most valuable bonus feature is the un-aired 73-minute version of the pilot that introduced a terrorism story that the network feared wouldn't play well if the show was scheduled for 8 p.m. Series creator Tim Kring offers an informative and illustrative commentary, showing off some creative film work that was never seen on TV and missteps he's glad to have avoided exposing to a mass audience (there's a cheesy shot of Sylar clad in a black trench coat and fedora).

Kring points out things that changed from the series to pilot (sets, locations, etc.), how some of the stunts were shot and how mistakes turned into nice touches, particularly in the instance of actress Ali Larter's car gaffe.

"Ali put the car in reverse and almost ran over the second unit camera," Kring says. "But we ended up using it in the show because we thought it was pretty cool."

"Heroes" is cool, no question, but this DVD set isn't as super-powered.

'Friday Night Lights: Season One'

Think you don't want to watch a television show about high school football? You're wrong. And the makers of the "Friday Night Lights" DVD are so confident that they're offering a money-back guarantee. If you don't like the DVD -- which Universal has priced to sell at $29.98 -- simply send it back along with your receipt for a full refund.

With this unusual marketing strategy, the minds behind "Friday Night Lights" are clearly trying to draw buzz and eyeballs before the show's second-season debut on Oct. 5. The first season of "Friday Night Lights," which was a best-selling book and a big-budget movie before it was a television show, drew abysmal ratings but plenty of critical acclaim for its raw and complex portrayal of a small Texas town consumed by high school football.

But, as executive producer Jason Katims says on a DVD bonus feature, the show is "not so much about football as it is about life." And that's where "Friday Night Lights" truly distinguishes itself, taking on everything from racism to steroids to domestic violence without ever verging into after-school special territory.

Even for the few viewers who caught the show during its regular season, the episodes are well worth watching again, particularly for less than $30. Though the extras are well done -- this reviewer confesses to tearing up from one of the deleted scenes -- they are fairly bare bones. Other than the deleted scenes, there's just one other bonus feature: A 22-minute "Making of the Final Episode" documentary, which follows and interviews cast members, producers and Austin-based extras as the show's season finale goes through final script changes, on-location stadium shots and an editing process that pieces together footage from three handheld cameras..

'Dane Cook: The Lost Pilots'

This may be a first: Comedian Dane Cook has acquired enough of a fan following to warrant the DVD release of two failed TV pilots. I can't recall failed pilots being released publicly this way in the past.

The pilots were filmed in 2004 and 2005. The first, called "Cooked 1" on the DVD, was a UPN pilot titled "Humor Me." "Cooked 2" was a different pilot. The two have nothing to do with one another, although you can see the germ of the idea for "Cooked 2" in a deleted scene from "Cooked 1."

In "Cooked 1," Cook plays an aspiring sitcom star who loses his job and girlfriend and moves in with his brother and sister-in-law (Justine Bateman), with whom he clashes. Typical Cook humor ensues, most of it aimed at adolescent boys (Cook flips cashews into his mouth using an unorthodox body part as the launch pad).

"Cooked 2" is more successful by being less ordinary. Cook and friends, including Liz Vassey, have a wacky adventure centered around a knife-wielding monkey named Mr. Pickles.

"The Lost Pilots" ($14.94, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) includes extensive, profanity-filled bloopers (26 minutes and 35 minutes each) and deleted scenes that will amuse Cook's most ardent fans. But don't believe the "Uncensored" sticker on the cover: While profanity on the extras is not censored, shots of Cook and an actress in a love scene are strategically blurred.

Heroes Clues and Spoilers: Season Finale, "How To Stop an Exploding Man"

"Call me Noah." - H.R.G., Noah Bennett to Peter Petrelli, finally partners.

H.R.G. - Mr. Bennett, Claire's adoptive father, has a name, and it is Noah Bennett. His first name has become a cult speculation throughout Season 1. As promised, Tim Kring and the producers tied up the loose threads, this one included. Personally I do not know if Noah fits that well, but he will be in future episodes and it will grow. Who is Noah? In one definition he is someone who is wise and long lived, or in the bible, the prophet who saved all the living creatures from the apocalyptic flood. Like biblical Noah, H.R.G. ... er... Noah Bennett, was in the future saving some of the Heroes super - heroes.
"You saved the Cheerleader, so WE could save the world" - The super-Heroes brothers Petrelli, Nathan to Peter before launch.

Nathan Heroes Spoilers clues: Ambiguous Nathan was rehabilitated in the end. Last week, he was the uncaring plastic political candidate, whispering doom in Hiro the time-traveller's ear. In the garage in "How To Stop An Exploding Man", he rejects Peter's pleas for help. Yet it was Claire's plea that finally penetrated his soul. Nothing is written in stone he concludes.

Nathan finally gives Peter a helping hand

In the climactic showdown with Sylar, Nathan follows his destiny ... to save the world, just as Linderman and his mother mamma Angela Petrelli expected. Only Nathan did not do it in the way they expected. Instead, with Sylar down, and his daughter Claire about to murder her uncle, Nathan swoops in. His brother, Peter saved the cheerleader once. If Claire pulled the trigger, she would have had it on her conscience forever, unable to lead a normal life - if one is possible for a super Heroes hero healer. So Nathan finally acts like a father and saves her, sacrificing his own life, and saving the world. (Screencap courtesy Heroes the series)

Angela Petrelli, mother of Peter and Nathan, predicts to Charles Deveaux that Peter would survive. The Heroes spoilers are ... Peter is indestructible, and Nathan lives ... maybe :) One theory is that Nathan tosses Peter, Peter explodes and survives (as Angela Petrelli predicts), and Nathan was far away. Another theory is ka-boom, the end. The biggest controversy coming out of the Heroes season finale is why Peter does not just fly by himself, rather than requiring Nathan to do it for him. The Heroes spoilers answer: Pending contract renewal... :)

The Heroes spoilers preview clip of Volume Two - Generations, was the last minutes of the season finale - i.e. Heroes Season 2, Episode 1. After defeating the villain, Hiro pops to the past landing, literally, in the middle Shogun era Japan – chased by samurai warriors, the Heroes helix on the banner of the opposing side. Heroes spoilers eclipse and fade to black.

Molly and Micah Spoilers: Don't Molly and Micah make a cute kid couple? M&M ... It was kiddie love once Micah called the broken elevator. Now Heroes has lovable kids for season two. Clueless Mohinder thinks they are in the clear, but now, lovable Molly spoils that with "He's here". The setup of the season two villain also was Molly's... When I look for him, he sees me ...

More Molly spoilers: Molly is a little creepy, like a cross between Sixth Sense ("I see dead people" ... Molly: "He sees me") and Poltergeist ("They're here" ... Molly: "He's here", referring to Sylar's arrival in Kirby Plaza). Expect Molly to have some ambiguity in Season 2, Generations.

Charles Deveaux, the father of Simone, and the builder of the Deveaux building is like Obi Wan Kenobi - coming to Peter from the grave. He can see invisible people ... at least in their dreams, and the Heroes spoilers - he can see Molly. ... not really.

Hiro the Heroes spoilers clues: Hiro also redeems himself. Not only by carrying out destiny and killing Sylar, but also in two other ways. One, he stands up to his father, George Takai, but with respect, finally learning that to carry out his destiny he needs to understand his own inner strength. So first, he saves Ando, in style. Learning he can move more quickly than Sylar. With Ando saved, and safe back in Tokyo, Japan, Hiro leaves his Kensei samurai sword with Ando, promising to return for it and Ando. He takes Ando's discount sword, teleports to Kirby Plaza New York for the final showdown with Sylar.

Who is the villain, worse than Sylar?

Does Officer Matt the mindreader Parkman die? Lovable but a little creepy Molly needs him. She can't be left alone with Mohinder.

Did Sylar really die or is he now a super-bad cockaroach?

Hana Gitelman: Heroes New SuperHero

Heroes is set to unveil the newest superhero: the unlikely Hana Gitelman, shown in the publicity photo. Hana was a superhero, even before she developed any superpower - a first. She was a member of the Israeli Mossad, Israel's equivalent of the CIA. As a secret agent Hana hunted down terrorists from Gaza to Iran, all without superpowers. Now Hana has the power to receive and send e-mails, but without a Blackberry. She also can receive other types of electronic communications and control computers all with her mind. Pretty neat.

There are some spoilers in Hana's backstory, not yet broadcast. Hana was captured by H.R.G. like the other heroes, and she is determined to figure out his plans. She has already tracked down Ted Sprague, the Heroes radioactive guy. He received her email even though his Nevada desert hideout has no electricity. Hana has a dark side that she needs to learn to live with. There is a sneak peak of Hana and Ted here.

Heroes' Hana Gitelman is played by Stana Katic, who last appeared as Collette Stenger in Season 5 of 24 on Fox.

Godsend Episode Summary

OK, The big one for tonight: the Heroes 360 Degrees Experience.

This has everything to do with Claire's psycho father HRG's front company, Primatech Paper. We meet Primatech Paper in the raid on their Odessa, Texas facility. A lot of superheroes in one place. Suddenly HRG is a smirking psycho bad guy again. Taunting Matt with his failure to expose HRG.

Did you notice how the episode starts "two weeks later"? That's what is flashed on the opening card. HRG must have gone on a crash diet in those two weeks. Notice how much thinner he has become? Definitely did not eat a lot over holiday/New Year break.

The Heroes 360 Degree Experience is launched during the episode with the hint to text Apply to 46622 printed on HRG's business card handed to Mohinder Suresh. Now what was that? NBC gave the spoiler to it a few days ago with a press release announcing the 360 Degree Experience will begin today, with the airing of Godsend. Basically the 360 Degree Experience will be like an on-line treasure hunt for storyline clues related to Heroes, and maybe spoilers too. This is meant to augment the viewing experience, like with the on-line web game that Lost had last summer. The Heroes 360 Degree Experience is sponsored by Nissan (and others), so expect some product placement and tie-ins.

Beginning on January 22nd, viewers will be invited to experience "Heroes" in a whole new way. As they investigate on-air clues and learn new truths about the characters, their involvement will lead them to new platforms, including interaction with unique mobile content

Back to the episode:

Hiro at the museum of Natural History in New York, looking at the dinosaur exhibit. Conveniently, the Heroes samurai sword is right next to the exhibit. As soon as Hiro sees it he knows he’s found his weapon. The twist: It is a replica and the infamous Linderman has popped up again… He’s got the original.

Then Linderman has a recurring invisible presence, appearing again as the guy who stole … errr bought all the paintings.

Ted the radioactive guy – he is isolated all alone with his inner demons in a remote desert location in Nevada - a nuclear test range for the radioactive guy. A fitting place for him to absorb all the energy he needs.

The big reveal of PrimatechPaper.com on HRG’s card. The access number is on the back of the card. Conveniently it is not revealed, and of course the Heroes 360 Degree Experience will involve that very number.

The big reveal, we were right… Peter the power sponge absorbs Ted’s radioactivity and can’t control it, so the world explodes. Ambiguous Claude is introduced to be Peter’s reluctant Yoda to control the power of this Force. An evil hero using his invisibility power to pick pockets on crowded streets.

Oh, Sylar did not escape :). What are they saving him for? Poor pitiful Sylar curled up in a ball at he beginning, like decidedly not pitiful Nikki/Jessica at the end. Tidy episode bookends.

Heroes Spoilers: "Godsend"

Finally the waiting is over for Heroes spoilers fans. The next episode is a new one, and it is right around the corner.

The title of the Heroes episode is "Godsend", and this one is Episode 12 of Season 1, undoubtedly the first of many. That's not a spoiler :)

A lot of rumors have been floated, cranking up the Heroes hype. Expect record-breaking ratings when the episode airs first on January 22, 2007. The only thing that could stop it is going heads-up against Jack Bauer. We love Jack, but the good money bets that Jack needs to find a new time slot. Ok let's get down to business. Last month we had the big spoiler for this Heroes episode...

Claude the invisible guy portrayed by the U.K.'s Dr. Who Christopher Eccleston. Chris was the ninth actor portraying Dr. Who, and is depicted in the photo at right in the role. Look for Claude to be the mature Yoda to Peter power sponge, who is of increasing importance to saving the world. However, the spoiler is Claude is a Heroes hero of ambiguous intentions and we will not know exactly who's side he is on.

Hiro and Ando go on their quest for the samurai sword used by Hiro to battle the monstrous dinosaur in Isaac's famous painting. More Heroes spoilers on the sword here.There has been a lot of speculation on whether Hiro really goes back to the Jurassic era to fight the nasty T-Rex. However newest whispered spoiler on the street, heard only here is that the painting actually was an allegory, and the real event is that Hiro and Ando come into danger at the exhibit, grab the sword from the samurai warrior display in self-defense. As Hiro swings the weapon, the dinosaur display at the museum serves witness, as memorialized in Isaac's painting. So there are two possibilities - Hiro does battle in Jurassic park, versus the museum. We have been unable to fully verify this one, so it's just a hunch *wink*, we are going with Hiro swings the Heroes sword in the museum, witnessed by the dino-exhibit.

Do you remember Niki, the split personality, surrendered to the police in the mid-season cliff-hanger? Can you imagine what her baaad half Jessica thinks of that? Not a spoiler here, she is frustrated and pissed off!

Claire the healing cheerleader after her discussion with the Haitian memory eraser, and struggles with keeping secrets from uber controlling dad H.R.G. - Mr. Horn Rimmed Glasses (Mr. Bennett)

Here is the "official" word from NBC.com. You can see their episode summary is pretty vague, but some nice spoilers to keep us interested. So take the summary - and spoilers in general - for the fun it is:

The title refers to all the cliffhangers and to the appearance of invisible Claude:

Then they go into the meat of the episode:

Picking up two weeks after recent events, Nathan’s (Adrian Pasdar) determination to save a comatose Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) forces him to turn to Simone (Tawny Cypress) for help. Isaac’s (Santiago Cabrera) puzzling "Hiro vs. T-Rex" painting inspires Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (guest star James Kyson Lee) to search for the pictured samurai sword.

Notice they are coy on whether Hiro goes back to fight the dinosaur. Look for the "fight" to happen either in this episode or within the next 2 weeks.

Jessica (Ali Larter) struggles against Niki’s decision to turn herself into police.

With his associate Eden dead and Matt on his heels, H.R.G. tries to focus on his orders regarding Sylar (guest star Zachary Quinto).

Hey! Sylar now is a "guest star"! This is the real spoiler. Look for Sylar to come to an end this season.

After being offered a choice by the Haitian (guest star Jimmy Jean-Louis), Claire (Hayden Panettiere) struggles with changes her decision has wrought. Taking up his father’s quest, Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) attempts to share information about who is "on the list" of people with special abilities and the threats to their lives. Meanwhile, a new hero (guest star Christopher Eccleston) makes a shocking debut.

Claude is another guest role.

Heroes Spoiler Season

From the teaser trailer and some other super secret hidden sources maybe, we've now isolated a few more spoilers.

Niki, half of the the dual personality with Jessica, is informed by her lawyer or someone really official looking that the prosecution is going for the death penalty. It is not clear whether it is her, her disappearing husband D.L., or Ted the radioactive guy who they want offed. The last we see of Niki in the ad is an injection and her lying face down in a padded mental hospital room.Most chilling is Mohinder saying to Nathan the congressman that his brother Peter is the most important person on the entire list. Peter the power sponge is the key, as we have said before.

Claire's increasingly less creepy dad H.R.G. (horn rimmed glasses) joins with Mohinder to form an alliance. As seen in the publicity photo at left, H.R.G. says, here's my card, let's do lunch. We do not know if Mohinder is being used now, since we still have not learned who H.R.G.'s puppet master is. After all, it is no coincidence that indestructible Claire wound up being "adopted" by H.R.G.

Hiro has a naively presented interaction with Nathan, where Nathan cannot get his accent. This carries the theme of bringing Nathan into acceptance of his super flying power.

We Are Family ... Not

What's going on with this? Is D.L. Hawkins, the disappearing guy, Nikki (or is it Jessica?) Sanders and Micah (electronics-wonder-kid) back together again as one happy family? Big spoiler?

No, this one really is not an official Heroes TV Show Spoilers blog spoiler. We noticed this PR photo and thought it was ironic the whole family was together. Is NBC sending us a message about a future together? I don't think so. They just were all in the same place when the photographer came by! But you know, I'd really like to see it happen. Talk about dysfunctional family fun...

Hiro Sword

What did we know about Hiro's quest for his sword? In our earlier Heroes spoilers posts, it was revealed that Hiro keeps up his quest for the samurai sword - you know, the sword strapped to his back in the famous subway future sequence between Hiro and Peter Petrelli.

In recently released PR shots, we see that Hiro really does find the sword. Not just the sword but the full samurai warrior body armour.But let's take a closer look at this spoiler scene. Why is it a spoiler? Well we know Hiro sees his goal. But check out the handle of the samurai weapon. Nice design huh? Really nice. In fact, it's like "x" marks the spot. In this case its the Heroes RNA strand logo marks the spot.

Matt and Claire Spoilers

The Heroes spoilers are rolling in to Heroes TV Show Spoilers central now that we are getting some buzz.Buzz? Like a cute bumble bee buzz?

Not what we had in mind, but that buzz is for another day…stay tuned.

As for the spoilers, they will keep rolling out of the inner sanctum to hype the January 22 mid-season Heroes premiere. As soon as we fully interrogate and vet each spoiler we will post them here ... keep checking. After all we need to maintain our track record of 100% accuracy. Seriously, not, our hit rate is not looking around 99.9%. How’s that for innovative grammar ? ;)

Without further introduction, here are the new spoilers:

If she had not yet figured it out, Matt's wife finally gets clued in as he confirms all her suspicions that there is something going on in his head. More correctly in her head since it's Matt who is there reading her mind at will. All those secrets she has really are not. She’s been bad and he knows it but also has guilt.

Claire, daughter of HRG (Mr. Horn-Rimmed-Glasses), of course spends some real quality time with the mind erasing "Haitian" superhero. Finally she blurts out she wants to meet Peter Petrelli. Why is that? Well Peter the power sponge is the key, and Claire needs to save the world. As loyal readers of the Heroes TV Show Spoilers blog already know, "Save the cheerleader .. Save the world" means a lot more than just saving Claire’s life. It means saving her Heroes memories. HER superpowers are needed to help save the world – and she needs to be kept safe from rampaging Sylar on the loose. Getting close to power sponge Peter Petrelli is a key, so he can use her healing powers, and at the necessary time Ted the radioactive guy's radiation. And Voila, world is saved! Or maybe destroyed if the dream is really what it seemed to be – which we doubt.
